On Saturday the 14th of September, ERS staff undertook our fundraising challenge for this year in memory of our much loved colleague, Gemma (Lowrie) McDonagh.
ERS' staff were joined by Gemma’s husband Sean and some other friends and family members. The route of the sponsored walk went around Loch Katrine, from Trossach’s Pier at the southern end of the loch to Stronachlacher Pier on the north-west bank - a hike of 13 miles / 21km.
We started out from Trossach’s Pier, thankful that the weather was looking brighter than forecast and we were dry (for now!) The road soon entered pretty woodland with occasional views over the Loch, climbing steeply in parts as we wound our way along the path. A few miles in we found the perfect place to stop for a bite to eat (and top up on the midge repellent!).
After this our luck ran out and the heavens opened, making for a very wet second half of our hike. We were very glad to reach Stronachlacher pier for some much-needed shelter and a hot drink at the Pier Cafe!
At 15:30 we boarded the Sir Walter Scott steamship and made our journey back to Trossach’s Pier across the water, however this year we chose to sit inside as outside was rather blustery and wet to say the least!
Everyone enjoyed a much-deserved hot meal afterwards at the Crown Hotel in Callander to reward our efforts and afford everyone the chance to dry off for the journey home.
Another amazing effort this year from our brilliant staff members and Gemma’s family and friends in a bid to raise funds for both Anaphylaxis UK, which supports people with life threating allergies, and Dogs Trust, the UK's leading dog welfare charity and Gemma's favourite charity.
Our wonderful supporters have helped us smash our original target and so far we have raised over £6000! Donations can still be made via our Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/GemmaMcDonagh
We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts. We appreciate each and every donation!
